FinishThe Longmen Grottoes, located on the cliffs of Longmen Mountain and Xiangshan Mountain in the south suburbs of Luoyang, are one of China’s four major grottoes. They contain more than 97,000 Buddha statues, of which the tallest stands at 17 meters. In 2000, they were inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage list.
Among all attractions in Luoyang, the Longmen Grottoes are well worth a visit. Here, the east and west mountains face each other to form a natural gate through which Yishui River flows. The grottoes densely cover the cliffs and extend for up to 1 km from north to south. There are 60 to 80 large and medium-sized grottoes in the east and west mountains, with part of the grottoes in the west mountain the essence of Longmen Grottoes. When peonies are in full bloom and the weather is pleasant, visitors are suggested to come to this beautiful place to personally experience the cultural heritage of ancient Chinese people.
