Li Keqiang Meets with German Chancellor, Highlighting Tourism Cooperation and Personnel Exchange

China and Germany to tighten cooperation in innovation, further open up to each other, and bring all-round strategic partnership to the next level

On the afternoon of May 31, local time, Chinese premier Li Keqiang held a meeting with German counterpart Angela Merkel at the chancellery in Berlin.

Pointing out the complementarity, shared interests and cooperation potentials of Chinese and German economies, Li promised to better align the “Made in China 2025” initiative with Germany’s “Industry 4.0” initiative, further open up to the Chinese market on the basis of equality, expand and deepen cooperation in manufacturing, energy, aviation, innovation and SME development. He sought for German support in the EU airworthiness certification of China’s home-grown C919 airplane and suggested tightening cooperation in education, culture and tourism and facilitating personnel exchange. Li also showed support for Germany’s hosting of the G20 Summit this year, and expressed the wish to jointly promote global economic governance to achieve robust, sustainable and balanced growth.

Merkel positioned Germany as a reliable partner for China and recognized the strong partnership between the two. She noted: “Given the current international situation, it’s vital for us to maintain close high-level dialogues. We would like to strengthen exchange and cooperation with China in areas of trade investment, finance, new energy vehicles, medical services and humanities in the spirit of mutual benefits, align the ‘Industry 4.0’ initiative with the ‘Made in China 2025’ initiative and expand our cooperation within the G20 framework. We highly appreciate China’s stance for European integration and look forward to the fruits from the 19th EU-China Summit.”

The two also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.(source:Xinhua)
