Jiaohe Red Leaf Valley, Jilin: An Encounter with Autumn's Red Splendor
Published: October 30, 2026

Located in Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, the Red Leaf Valley Scenic Area covers 5,201 hectares. It comprises three sections—Red Leaf Valley, Qingling and Guzhonggu—with Red Leaf Valley as its centerpiece. Visitors can enjoy autumn foliage, experience forest bathing and take in the lakeside scenery while enjoying a relaxing resort getaway.

In late autumn, when the first frost arrives, the entire valley turns red, with layer upon layer of forest transformed by the season.

Stretching for more than 50 kilometers, the valley's mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests undergo a spectacular transformation after the frost, revealing a "Five-Colored Mountain" spectacle in which red, orange, gold and green intertwine. The Qingling Waterfall cascades through layers of green and crimson, while mountain boardwalks wind through the vibrant forests, creating one of Jilin's most iconic autumn scenes.

The red leaves of the valley have four distinctive features:

Grand scale: Forest belts stretch continuously for more than 50 kilometers. There is no need to search for the perfect photo spot; magnificent expanses of autumn color await wherever you look.

Rich variety: The valley is home to more than 10 tree species known for their autumn colors. Besides common maples, it hosts Amur maple (Acer ginnala), Mongolian oak and staghorn sumac.

Captivating colors: Different tree species and trees of varying ages change color at the same time, creating a rich tapestry of red, orange, gold and green.

A fleeting moment: The best viewing period is brief, lasting only a short time after the first frost. Visit a week too early, and the leaves are still green; a week too late, and they have fallen. Timing is everything.
