Autumn on Bailang Peak must be earned step by step—only at the summit does it unfold in full. Known as the “Roof of the Khingan,” it is a gem of a hiking destination in the Arxan area, famous for its unique periglacial block field at the peak and its spectacular forest views.

Route Options

Choose your hike based on energy and time:

Classic Hiking Route

This route doesn't backtrack, offering a more complete experience of the scenery.

Recommended route: Jiguan Mountain Villa → Bailang Peak Summit → Guangdingshan Forestry Station → Wetland Park. Total distance is about 14 kilometers, with 600 meters of cumulative elevation gain, taking roughly 6 hours.

Easy Scenic Area Route

If you prefer a relaxed visit, choose the trails within the scenic area.

- East Slope Trail: The most popular route, about 3.5 kilometers round-trip, taking roughly 2.5 hours. The trail is mostly wooden boardwalk and stone steps, making it very beginner-friendly.

- South Mountain Boardwalk: Starting from the sightseeing bus stop halfway up the mountain, a walk of about 300 meters brings you to the summit. The path is in excellent condition.

- North Slope Path: It has a relatively gentle gradient, making it very suitable for beginners.

Best Season and Experiences

Late September to early October is when Bailang Peak is at its most beautiful. At this time, the larches and birches of the Greater Khingan Range turn golden, creating a striking visual contrast with the black periglacial block field at the summit—the prime season for photography and hiking.

Best Experiences:

Block Field at the Summit: At the 1,511-meter peak, see nearly 200 hectares of periglacial block field—a geological wonder left by glacial movement, truly spectacular.

Panoramic Forest Views: The summit is a 360° viewing platform, offering sweeping views of the endless Greater Khingan Range forest sea.

Sunrise and Sunset: This is a prime spot for watching the sunrise over a sea of clouds. When the first rays of light illuminate the entire mountain forest, the scene is breathtaking.

After descending, you can stop by Bailang Deer Village on the way down—not far from Bailang Peak. Reindeer roam freely there, and you can get up close to them. In autumn, you can stand among the golden woods as reindeer walk past, with fallen leaves rustling underfoot.
