A Journey Through Blossoms: Spring in the Three Gorges
Published: March 25, 2026
Editor: Yang Shuo

Spring in the Three Gorges is a floral feast, where mountains bloom, the river gleams emerald, and mist cloaks the peaks—every scene carrying the season's quiet poetry.

1. Plum Trees in Blossom

Plum blossoms are the undisputed star of spring in the Three Gorges. In Quchi township, Wushan county, Chongqing, more than 300,000 mu (20,000 hectares) of plum trees erupt into a snow‑white sea, their pristine blooms edging the banks and reflecting on the jade‑green water—a living painting of "crystal waters embraced by floral shores."

Take a spring season cruise to glide past banks piled with blossoms, where petals drift on the current and the landscape feels like a moving canvas.

For an even grander perspective, the low‑altitude flight from the Airport in the Clouds (Chongqing Wushan Airport) lifts you above the scene: the Yangtze winds like a mighty dragon while fields of plum bloom spread beneath—a stirring, unforgettable view.

Recommended route: Depart Xiaosanxia Tourist Center (Wushancounty), sail upstream past Ningjiang Ferry, Gaotang Temple, Dawn on Nanling in Spring, Laolong Cave, Guanshang, Chaoyang Cave, Yueming Mountain, and Tianzi Temple, ending at Quchi township.

2. Rapeseed Flowers

From mid‑March, when warm breezes kiss the slopes, Liangshui village in Futian town becomes a golden sea of terraced rapeseed. Along the embankments of Paoma and Hunshui villages, ribbons of yellow thread through the green hillsides.

Futian—celebrated as Wushan's "tea homeland"—is dotted with mist‑veiled tea gardens. Visitors can pick tender leaves and sample or learn to craft green, white or Hawk teas, experiencing the poetic path from sprout to cup.

Self‑drive route: Wushan county → Dachang Expressway → exit at Shuanglong → follow signs to Futian → Liangshui village (terraced rapeseed) → Paoma village (riverside blooms) → Shuangfeng village tea gardens.

3. Pear Blossoms

At Wangtianping in Chunxiao village, Jianping township, a sweeping overlook frames Wushan county, Wuxia Gorge, and the Yangtze River Bridge.

From late March to early April, thousands of mu of Qiuyue pear blossoms unfold in splendor. Walk forested trails, breathe oxygen‑rich air, watch cloud‑sea sunrises, witness Wushan's misty rains, enjoy rustic vistas, and sample farmhouse specialties such as kong yangyu (potatoes prepared with a traditional method).

Self‑drive route: Wushan county → Chunxiao village, Jianping township → Wangtianping.

4. Cherry Blossoms

Each March, more than 2,000 mu of cherry blossoms bloom across Daxi township. Snow‑white clusters glow against the Yangtze's blue waves, dotted with rustic cottages—a spring tableau that blends ecological beauty with pastoral charm.

A spring journey through the Three Gorges is more than a visual feast; it renews the spirit. Here you connect with nature, absorb the season's vitality, and create memories that linger long after the blossoms fade.
