Step into a violet summer dream at Tianshan Flower Sea in Ili
Published: July 1, 2026
Editor: Yang Zhaoxia

If you ask me which place in Xinjiang is the most breathtaking, I would say it is the sea of violet lavender in Ili.

Every June and July, the Tianshan Flower Sea Scenic Area in Ili, Xinjiang, transforms into an ocean of violet. Vast lavender fields unfurl beneath snow-capped peaks, as if the earth has draped itself in a soft violet blanket.

The most extraordinary experience here is riding the sightseeing train through the blooms. As the train glides gently through the violet waves, the fragrance of the flowers drifts toward you on the breeze. You can snap photos from the carriage or lean out to feel the gentle touch of the wind and blossoms. The entire journey lasts about 20 minutes.

Beyond the lavender, the grounds also feature fields of sage, rapeseed, and sunflowers, with layers of color cascading like an overturned painter's palette. You can stroll or cycle among the flower beds or ascend to the observation deck for a sweeping panorama of the floral tapestry.
