The Inner Mongolia section of G331 is a drive you'll remember for a lifetime. Every bend along this highway brings a different view—through forests ablaze with color, across grasslands turned to gold, past winding wetlands, over vast Gobi, and into the boundless desert. Autumn unfolds layer by layer, and the scenery changes with every mile.

There's a small surprise waiting on this route: a stretch of G331 in Hulunbuir is a “musical road.” When your tires roll over the surface, the road plays a melody. This is northern China's first grassland musical road—you're driving along, and suddenly the car starts to “sing.”

Stop One: Moerdaoga Tourist Resort

From Ergun City, head to the White Deer Island Scenic Area within Moerdaoga Tourist Resort. Here you can try forest meditation, forest yoga, forest tea ceremonies, forest cycling, and whitewater rafting on the Jiliu River; taste wild vegetables, wild mushrooms, and wild berries; and even make your own scented wax tablet with marsh Labrador tea essential oil.

Stop Two: Arxan–Chaihe Scenic Area

Continue west to the Arxan–Chaihe Scenic Area, taking Tianchi, Shitanglin Forest, and Azalea Lake along the way. You can visit the Unfrozen River, the Blue House, and Wusu Langzi Lake, taking in the geothermal river wonders and forest sea, and experiencing the pristine landscapes of the Greater Khingan Range. Autumn in Arxan is the boldest stroke of color in the entire range.

Stop Three: Wulagai Jiuqu Bay

At Wulagai Jiuqu Bay, admire the spectacular sight of the river winding across the grassland—looking down from above, it moves like a giant loong dancing.

Stop Four: Dahong Mountain, Siziwang Banner

Continue west to Dahong Mountain in Siziwang Banner, Ulanqab. The danxia landform glows like rubies in the setting sun, with the richest colors at sunset.

Stop Five: Ejina Populus Euphratica Forest Tourist Area

Head all the way west to your final destination: the Ejina Populus Euphratica Forest. Just 21 days of ultimate autumn color each year, with golden leaves blanketing the land as far as the eye can see. Board the mini train and ride through the millennia-old Populus euphratica forest—it feels like stepping into a golden fairy tale.
