Nestled along the northern section of the ancient Silk Road, the Jinta Desert Populus Euphratica Forest Scenic Area in Gansu comprises five zones: the core Populus Euphratica Forest–Jinbo Lake area, the Russian Olive Forest, the Hanhai Chinese Tamarisk Reserve, the Desert Adventure Zone, and the Desert Reed Maze. At its heart lies northwest China's largest Populus euphratica forest, a vast expanse of this "living fossil" tree, renowned for its stunning autumn scenery.

Here, visitors can soak up the desert atmosphere, discover Populus euphratica culture, wander through tranquil Populus euphratica groves, and enjoy the untamed beauty of the sands. Combining ecological afforestation and wind prevention and sand stabilization with dining, leisure, vacations, photography, and sightseeing, the area offers something to enjoy in every season.

Located in the heart of the scenic area, Jinbo Lake ("Golden Ripples Lake") covers more than 50,000 square meters. From late September to mid-October, the Populus euphratica leaves turn brilliant gold, their colors reflected in the water beneath a clear blue sky. A series of small bridges connects the islets to the shore, bringing visitors closer to the scenery.

Topped with a roof of golden glazed tiles, Huyang Tower features a sightseeing elevator that takes visitors to the top, where they can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire forest.

In late summer and early autumn, the Chinese tamarisk bursts into bloom, spreading sheets of rosy red across the dunes like rouge and flames. The sight is unforgettable.

The Desert Reed Maze is one of the area's highlights. Reeds usually thrive in marshes, making such a magnificent stand of them in a desert forest a rare sight. In spring, the reeds form a carpet of green; in summer, they become a sea of lush growth; in autumn, silvery reed blossoms fill the sky; and in winter, the maze becomes a quiet refuge for flocks of resting birds.
