Dongshan Goat

Hainan Dongshan Goat is mainly produced in Dongshanling, Wanning, Hainan, so it was called eastern sheep by the local people. It is famous for its high quality mutton and known as one of the four famous dishes in Hainan with Jiaji Duck, Hele Crab, and Wenchang Chicken.

In 2009, Hainan Dongshan Goat has been included in the List of Protected Varieties for the First Batch of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources. They are distributed all over Hainan Province, especially in the cities of Wanning, Qiongshan, Chengmai and so on.

In Wangning, sheep is a necessary dish for festivals such as weddings, birthdays, the New Year, etc. Many tourists think that it is an honor to taste Dongshan Goat and that it would be a shame not to see the Dongshan Goat jumping on the rock.

After the Dongshan Goat was included in the “Encyclopedia of Chinese Food”, it has become the State Banquet of the Great Hall of the People in 2001.
