Wunv Mountain City is large, imposing and systematically comprehensive. In terms of the city's layout, the walls masonry, slab processing and other factors, the city is an outstanding example of the Koguryo people's intelligence and high-level of architectural art, and set the precedent for Koguryo mountain city structures, having an immense influence on later Koguryo architecture and northeast Asian architectural techniques.

Early Koguryo sites have been found within and without the city, including a royal palace, barracks, barn and water source, that still amaze to this day, even after over 2,000 years.

Wunü Mountain City was listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 1996. In 1999 it was hailed as one of the top 10 archeological findings in China. On July 1, 2004, at the 18th session of the World Heritage Committee, the site was recognized as a World Heritage Site under the Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom project.
