The Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in "The Centre of Heaven and Earth" that used to be named as the "Historical Monuments of Mount Songshan” is located around the Dengfeng City in Zhengzhou, Henan. The monuments include Taishi Que Gates, Zhongyue Temple, Shaoshi Que Gates, Qimu Que Gates, Songyue Temple Pagoda, the Shaolin Monastery complex (permanent residence, Bodhidharma Pavilion, Forest of Pagodas), Huishan Temple, Songyang Academy, Gaocheng Astronomical Observatory and so on, 11 sites spread over eight areas.

The Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in "The Centre of Heaven and Earth" displays ancient architectural masterpieces of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian cultural value, as well as a rich collection of ancient sculpture, murals and other cultural relics, forming a traditional cultural landscape that is unique in China and the world. The sites are perfect examples of ancient Chinese traditional civilization and remarkable achievements in techniques and art.

On August 1, 2010, UNESCO announced that the Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth” would be joining the list of World Heritage.
