Sanhe Ancient Town

With a history of over 2,500 years, the town developed from an ancient wharf along the three rivers. The old streets in the town are paved with slate, which still shines from thousands of years of use. The Anhui style architectures along the streets are unique and many of the walls are made from exposed black bricks. The ancient residences in Sanhe Ancient Town adopt cornices, carved beams and painted rafters, which are rare in late Qing Dynasty architecture complexes in the central Anhui region. Sanhe Town is an ancient water town with rich cultural landscapes. The unique Eight Ancient Scenes of the Yangtze and Huaihe River region can be found here, i.e. ancient rivers, ancient bridges, ancient polders, ancient streets, ancient residences, ancient teahouses and ancient battle fields.
