Qinghai Lake

Qinghai Lake, a national key tourist destination, is the largest saltwater lake and the largest inland lake in China. It is located in northeastern Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in northeastern Qinghai province, more than 150 kilometers away from the provincial capital of Xining.

Qinghai Lake was known as Xihai (West Sea) in ancient times. In Xizang language, it is referred to as Cuowenbo, which means “blue lake.” In Mongolian, it is called “Kokonor,” which also means “blue sea.” On the vast, serene grassland, there are numerous rivers and lush grass, and Qinghai Lake is like a giant magic mirror that the nature has bestowed upon the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. The scenic zones around Qinghai Lake mainly include Erlangjian scenic zone, Sand Island scenic zone, Jinsha Bay scenic zone, Bird Island scenic zone and Fairy Bay scenic zone. Given the high altitude, the weather is very cool. Even on sunny summer days, the average daily temperature is around 15 degrees Celsius, making the Qinghai Lake area ideal for summer resorts.
