Potala Palace

The Potala Palace is located at the top of Red Hill (3,750 m), Beijing Middle Road, Lhasa City, Xizang. It is a 13-story palace about 110m high. It was built by Srongtsen Gampo for Princess Wencheng in the 7th century. In December 1994, the Potala Palace was included in the World Heritage List.

It has solid granite walls, smooth willow branch wall surfaces, resplendent golden tops, and huge decorative gold-plated vases, pennants and prayer flags. The sharp contrast of red, white, and yellow, and the structural shapes reflect the ancient Xizang architectural feature. It is an outstanding representative of Xizang architecture and an essence of ancient Chinese architecture as well.
