Hefei, known as Luzhou and Luyang in ancient times, is now the capital of Anhui Province. It is at the center of the Hefei Metropolitan Circle and Wan-jiang Urban Belt; a sub-center of the Urban Agglomeration on the Yangtze River Delta; a national base for science & education and modern manufacturing; and a hub of comprehensive transportation.
This ancient city has a history of over 2,000 years. Hefei had been under the administration of Luzhou Prefecture since the Sui (581-618) to Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1636-1912) dynasties, and that has left many sites of historical interest here, including the Memorial Temple of Lord Bao, Former Residence of Li Hongzhang, and Traces of the King of Wu. Hefei was also the birthplace of many historical figures including Zhou Yu, Bao Zheng and Li Hongzhang.
