Anhui was first made a province in the sixth year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty(AD 1667), and its name derives from the names of two cities: Anqing and Huizhou (now Huangshan City). The official abbreviation for Anhui is "Wan" after Mount Wan and the State of Wan which covered the area during the Spring and Autumn period.
Anhui is one of the provinces in China with the richest tourist resources, boasting picturesque landscapes and ancient Buddhist, Taoist and Anhui Culture sites with distinctive Chinese characteristics. Huangshan, Xidi and Hongcun, two ancient villages in Yi County, are included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, and Huangshan is a world cultural heritage, natural heritage and world geopark.
